The government will extend a 300-euro benefit to widows as young as 60, lowering the eligibility age from 65, Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis announced Friday.
“We are correcting an injustice affecting widows. Since their only pension is a survivor’s pension, they will receive the 300-euro benefit starting at age 60 instead of 65,” Pierrakakis said during a conference in Athens.
“These are primarily women who are in a difficult position, with limited access to the labor market, and the state has a duty to stand by them with sensitivity and fairness,” he added.
