You can recreate classic pub food at home with one bag of chips from Iceland. We Brits love a good chip, and although they’re sold in every supermarket and can be easily cooked in the oven at home, it’s frustratingly tricky to cook a portion of chips that are anywhere close to the ones you get at pubs and restaurants – not to mention fish and chip shops.

But one woman on social media claims to have found the very best oven chips on the market, and they cost less than £3 from Iceland. Sarah explained that the chips she bought from Iceland taste just like the ones sold with almost every meal in Wetherspoons, one of the most popular chains of pubs in the UK.

Wetherspoons chips are known for their delicious crispy coating and fluffy interior, and patrons of the pub love them so much that there are multiple Facebook pages dedicated to the potato side. Some are designed to brag about finding a particularly long chip, and others are full of people raging whenever they feel they’ve received a small portion.

So if you want to control your own portion size of Wetherspoons chips, you’ll want to get yourself to Iceland, as Sarah claims that there’s a bag of chips on sale at the supermarket that are “exactly” like the pub’s ones.

She said: “If you like Wetherspoons and you like their chips, even though you only get 10 chips, I think I’ve found them. You can make them at home. They’re from Iceland, and they’re called Chunky Chips.”

The woman then showed a chip that she had recently cooked, saying they were the same texture and had the “same crispiness” as a Wetherspoons chip – and she was over the moon with her find.

She added: “This has been my life goal. This has been my life’s mission: to find out what chips they use. I’ve asked them, and they never give you an answer. Now, I can cook my own Wetherspoons chips at home.”

The exact chips featured in Sarah’s video are the Ridiculously Crispy Chunky Chips from Iceland. They come in a purple bag, and are £2.75 each for a 1.2kg bag – although they are eligible for the multibuy price from £2.50 each.

The chips have 34 reviews on the Iceland website, with almost everyone rating them a perfect five stars. Most customers say the chips are “delicious”, with one even making the bold claim that they were the “best chips I’ve had in ages”.

One person said: “Well, after trying every other make of frozen chips, I tried these, expecting they would also end up in the bin. What a surprise. They were by far the best. Nice and crunchy, cooked evenly, and actually tasted like proper chips, also incredibly good value.”

Another added: “In two words: Absolutely lush.”

A third wrote: “Finally found the perfect chip. Chunky, crispy, fluffy and tasty. I won’t be buying any other chips from now on.”

Commenters on Sarah’s video were also keen to give the Iceland chips a try for themselves, although some pointed out that Wetherspoons actually uses McCain’s oven chips, and they get their signature crisp by cooking them in a chip pan rather than in the oven.

One Wetherspoons employee said: “I work at Spoons and they are just McCains chips. Standard British chips, really.”
