CENTERVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – River Hills Community Health Center announced Tuesday it will close its Centerville clinic this summer, the second rural Iowa clinic the organization has shut down in recent weeks.

The Centerville Clinic will operate until its final day on July 31. River Hills CHC also announced the closure of its Richland Clinic in Keokuk County on April 29.

“This decision was not made lightly,” said Joy Alexander, CEO of River Hills Community Health Center. “For many years, the Centerville clinic has served as an important access point for care in Appanoose County and surrounding communities. We recognize the impact this closure may have on our patients, staff, and community partners, and we are deeply grateful for the trust and support the community has shown River Hills CHC over the years.”

The organization cited ongoing financial and operational challenges affecting rural health care across Iowa and the nation.

“Health care organizations across the country are facing unprecedented financial strain,” said Lori Miller, chief financial officer. “While this outcome is heartbreaking, our priority remains ensuring patients continue to have access to safe, compassionate, and coordinated care.”
