    Ireland’s top regulators have warned that the country could face a decade of shame and regret in underpolicing AI giants’ excesses if the Government decides to cut back on hiring at the Data Protection Commission (DPC) and Coimisiún na Meán.

    DPC Commissioner Dale Sutherland and Coimisiún na Meán Commissioner John Evans both told a conference that “resourcing” is now entering a pivotal stage, as Ireland becomes the AI tech hub of Europe – housing the headquarters of all the main AI giants, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Microsoft and X.
