Xi: 'Important Consensus' on Economics, Cooperation Reached at Summit

    Chinese President Xi Jinping said he and U.S. President Donald Trump had reached an “important consensus” during their summit this week and affirmed his resolve to stabilize bilateral relations and strengthen communication between the two sides.

    China’s state-run CCTV reported on Friday that Xi had made the remarks while hosting Trump at Zhongnanhai, which houses the offices and residences of the Chinese president and senior Communist Party and government officials.

    The Chinese leader said Trump had made “a historic and landmark visit,” during which the two sides affirmed “a constructive, strategic and stable China-U.S. relationship.”

    Xi said he and his counterpart reached “important common understandings” on stable economic and trade ties, expanding practical cooperation in various fields, properly addressing each other’s concerns and strengthening communication on global issues.

    The Chinese president said Trump’s visit had helped promote mutual understanding, deepen trust and increase the welfare of the people in both countries.
