President Lee Jae Myung expressed deep respect and gratitude for South Korea’s teachers on Teachers’ Day and promised to do his best to create better conditions so teachers can focus solely on educating children.
In a social media post on Friday, Lee said the nation exists thanks to its teachers’ efforts and dedication.
Lee said he understands the growing difficulties teachers face and the responsibilities they have to shoulder in the rapidly changing educational environment.
The president promised to provide practical support and make changes to help teachers “maintain their passion and sense of calling.”
Lee made the pledge amid growing calls to restore authority in classrooms following reports of teacher abuse from parents and students.
