A Tree of Friendship between Bulgaria, the German State of Baden-Wuerttemberg and the town of Ellwangen was symbolically planted on Saturday by the town’s mayor, Michael Dambacher, and the Consul General of Bulgaria in Munich, Stefan Yonkov.

Yonkov said: “As the roots of a tree lie deep in the ground, so too are the ties between our peoples strengthened through memory, culture and human friendship. We are planting not merely a tree but a symbol of continuity for future generations, who will continue to build bridges between Bulgaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg.”

The Consul General expressed the hope that in years to come, those passing by this tree will remember that friendship between nations is built on respect, goodwill and shared values.

Ellwangen is home to a Bulgarian chapel dedicated to St Cyril and St Methodius, which was visited earlier in the day by a delegation led by Yonkov. The town marked the Feast Day of St Methodius on Saturday. A thanksgiving service was held on the occasion at St Vitus Basilica in Ellwangen.
