This year’s ING Night Marathon will bring several route, finish line, shuttle bus, and public transport changes, while Luxembourg City says access to the capital, the emergency hospital on duty in Kirchberg, and car parks will be maintained throughout the event.
The capital will remain accessible for residents, businesses and hospitality, said Romain Pax, head of circulation services at Luxembourg City council. “It will be accessible all day, even for those not attending the marathon.”
From 4pm however, he warns that people must expect some road closures in Kirchberg and Limpertsberg. Traffic deviations will be in place for cars and public transport.
Park & Ride options
Visitors attending the marathon are encouraged to make use of the Park & Ride facilities at Bouillon and the stadium, as these have good public transport links via bus and tram routes. Some stops will not be accessible to public transport while the marathon is taking place, however. The roads will be closed to allow runners to pass, with ‘passages’ from each point, allowing people to cross the race route.
Kirchberg hospital permanently accessible
The hospital in Kirchberg is operating out-of-hours services (garde) this Saturday and will therefore remain accessible. Until 4.30pm there will be no closures, but some access routes may be temporarily shut after this time. However, the hospital is permanently to be accessed via the Serra roundabout from the A1 and A7 motorway exits, or via Neudorf.
Working fast to reopen roads
Once the last runners have passed through, clean-up activities will commence. Romain Pax estimates it could take 30 minutes to an hour to reopen the roads to traffic once more. In Kirchberg, where the departure and finish line are situated, the race route will be closed until the very end.
