On Saturday, 16 May 2026, His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III met with the General Secretary for Religious Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Georgios Kalantzis, in an atmosphere of cordiality and mutual esteem, in the presence of the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem, Mr Dimitrios Angelosopoulos.
A spirit of constructive dialogue and mutual understanding prevailed in the meeting, as matters of common interest were discussed concerning the presence, ministry and manifold mission of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem in the Holy Land. The enduring concern and steadfast support of the Hellenic Republic for the Venerable Patriarchates was also expressed, especially for the Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
Particular reference was made to the Greek Government’s initiative to advance a legislative proposal regarding the further institutional and practical strengthening of the Venerable Patriarchates, recognising their historical, spiritual and cultural role.
To mark the occasion of this meeting, commemorative gifts and blessings were exchanged as an expression of the longstanding bonds of cooperation and mutual respect between the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Greek State.
