Czechia (1-0-1-0, 4 points) looks to bounce back from an overtime loss on Saturday when it takes on Sweden (1-0-0-1, 3 points) in a Group B battle at the 2026 IIHF World Championship at BCF Arena in Fribourg, Switzerland, on Monday. The Swedes got their first win of the tournament on Sunday after opening with a loss to Canada while Czechia followed up a victory over Denmark with an overtime defeat at the hands of Slovenia. Sweden won the bronze medal at the 2025 IIF Worlds while serving as co-host with Denmark.

Six different players scored on Sunday for Sweden in its 6-2 rout of Denmark and the Swedes opened a 4-0 lead before the midpoint of the second period and cruised to the win. Mattias Ekholm of the Edmonton Oilers opened the scoring at 9:45 of the first period and captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson of the Toronto Maple Leafs made it 2-0 with 2:02 remaining in the frame. Lucas Raymond (Detroit Red Wings), Jakob Silfverberg (Brynäs IF, Sweden), Viggo Bjorck (Djurgårdens IF, Sweden) and Linus Karlsson (Vancouver Canucks) also lit the lamp for Sweden.
Czechia led 2-1 after two periods before Slovenia came back to tie the game midway through the third period and ended it 1:14 into overtime to hand the Czechs a 3-2 loss. Martin Kaut (HC Dynamo Pardubice, Czechia) tied the contest for Czechia at 4:44 of the second period and club teammate Lukáš Sedlák lit the lamp at 17:14 of the period put the Czechs into the lead.
Roman Červenka, a 40-year-old forward who plays with HC Dynamo Pardubice, captains the Czechia squad, which includes current NHL players Marek Alscher of the Florida Panthers and Filip Hronek of the Canucks on the blue line.
