Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reportedly told South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun that the instability in the Middle East is the responsibility of the United States and Israel.
In a statement posted on its official Telegram channel on Sunday, Iran’s foreign ministry said Araghchi made the remarks during a phone call with Cho.
During the call, Araghchi reportedly referred to the history of friendly bilateral relations between South Korea and Iran and emphasized the importance of further developing ties between the two countries.
The ministry said Araghchi explained the current situation in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz during the call, adding that he’d attributed the instability in the Middle East and its global repercussions to acts of aggression by the United States and Israel.
Araghchi reportedly stressed that the international community should hold the two countries accountable.
South Korea’s foreign ministry said earlier that Cho told Araghchi that Seoul was conducting an additional investigation into the recent attack on the South Korean vessel HMM Namu in the Strait of Hormuz and asked the Iranian side to clarify its position on the incident.
Iran’s foreign ministry did not mention the HMM Namu in its statement.
