The 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada is just around the corner, and less than a month remains until Argentina’s debut. As the days go by, different national teams have been submitting their lists of 26 players and, while La Albiceleste has so far only presented its 55-man preliminary list, one of its Group J rivals, Austria, confirmed its final squad.
La Scaloneta will make its debut against Algeria on June 16 and will wrap up the group stage on the 27th against Jordan. In between, on matchday two, it will face the European side on the 22nd, a team returning to the World Cup after 28 years away and hoping to make a strong showing with several standout players.
Austria qualified for the 2026 World Cup with a solid performance in Group H of the UEFA qualifiers. With six wins, one draw, and just one loss, the Austrians finished top of the group and secured a direct ticket to the World Cup, sending Bosnia and Herzegovina to the playoffs, where they later pulled off an upset against Italy. In eight matches, Austria scored 22 goals and conceded only four.
