WASHINGTON (KY3) – The U.S. Senate confirmed former southwest Missouri Congressman Billy Long as the new ambassador to Iceland. The vote was 46-43.

Long previously served as the shortest-tenured IRS commissioner since the position was created in 1862. The agency underwent a series of massive job cuts in 2025, ushered in by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.

Long also served in Congress from 2011 to 2023. While in Congress, where he served from 2011 to 2023, Long sponsored legislation to get rid of the IRS.

The Republican worked as an auctioneer, in real estate, and as a radio talk show host before his time in Washington.
