Samsung Electronics’ largest labor union will launch a general strike on Thursday as planned after marathon negotiations with management collapsed.
The union said Wednesday that it had accepted a mediation proposal made by the National Labor Relations Commission at around 10 p.m. Tuesday on the second day of last-ditch government-mediated talks, but the management had refused the proposal.
The union said it will stage the general strike as planned, stressing that during the 18-day period, it will continue efforts to reach a settlement with management.
The union wants management to set bonuses at 15 percent of operating profit, abolish the payout cap and standardize the bonus system.
