The Nathan Harris and Rhoda Lapham Family Organization will host a commemoration in Mentor, honoring the life and legacy of Nathan Harris, who served in the American Revolutionary War, survived the winter at Valley Forge, and spent his final years as a pioneer resident of Mentor.

    The event features a dedication of a new 8-foot granite monument at Mentor Municipal Cemetery beginning at noon June 20, according to a news release. The cemetery is located at 7881 Hopkins Road.

    There will be presentations and dedication of the Harris Monument. The ceremony follows a Revolutionary War Patriots Memorial Brick-Laying Ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Lake County Courthouse, 95 N. Park Place in Painesville, conducted by the New Connecticut Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

    A family lunch and historical presentations will follow at 1 p.m. at Old Council Hall, 7250 Hopkins Road in Mentor. A light lunch will be served with remarks, presentations and discussions honoring the Harris family, the release stated.
