WANA (May 21) – Russia’s Foreign Ministry emphasized that issues between Tehran and Washington must be resolved through diplomatic means and with Iran’s interests taken into account.

The Russian Foreign Ministry once again announced today that Moscow is prepared to help implement any potential agreements between Iran and the United States, including arrangements related to Iran’s enriched uranium.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that only Iran itself should decide the fate of its uranium stockpiles.

The Russian diplomat also underlined that the Iran issue can only be resolved through diplomatic channels and with consideration for Iran’s interests.

In a recent interview, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei addressed Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, which the United States has demanded Tehran hand over — a demand that, according to reports, has become a major sticking point in the negotiations.

He said the United States has made numerous demands and asked: “Why should Iran transfer its enriched material to another country? Is it because they are concerned about our nuclear program? If they were truly and genuinely concerned about the nature of Iran’s nuclear program, why did they decide to withdraw from the JCPOA in the first place?”

He went on to say: “Everyone knows that our nuclear program is 100 percent peaceful, and you cannot find a single report from the IAEA accusing Iran of deviating from peaceful purposes. Therefore, our people, the people of the region, and the entire world now understand more clearly than ever that the big lie constructed around Iran’s nuclear program was merely a pretext to pressure Iran and later legitimize a war of aggression against the country.”
