Zoran Ristoski, Director of MRT, confirmed that North Macedonia intends to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027.
There was a public session held by MRT Program Council, which was attended by media, guild associations and relevant institutions. During the session, Ristoski confirmed with certainty that North Macedonia will send a representative to Eurovision 2027 in neighbouring Bulgaria.
During the public session, Ristoski additionally added that MRT has support from the EBU in promoting cultural values and he expects MRT to receive a more favourable package for returning to the contest.
North Macedonia first participated in Eurovision in 1998. Between 2004, when the semi finals were introduced, and 2022, they sent an entry ever year. Previously, they planned withdrawal from the 2018 contest due to financial issues, however managed to reverse the decision in time.
North Macedonia indeed had to commit to withdrawal in 2023 before the contest in Liverpool and have since remained out for four consecutive contests. Just prior to this, they had managed their best ever placing of 7th place in 2019 with the entry βProudβ by Tamara Todevska. Until this week, this was the only jury winner for the contest from any country in the Balkan region.
During their absence, they have remained in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and intend to participate once more in the upcoming edition in October. They had all previously been rumoured to be taking on hosting duties for the Junior contest, following the announcement that reigning champions France had declined the offer. However, last week it was confirmed that this was not true and in fact the upcoming contest will be held in Malta.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2027 is expected to take place in May 2027 in Bulgaria. Germany, Denmark, Finland and San Marino have also confirmed intention to participate alongside the hosts Bulgaria.
