The Lee Jae Myung administration has finalized a list of 164 state tasks as part of its “national normalization project,” part of an initiative to root out corrupt practices and fix laws and systems that are out of date or at odds with public sentiment.
According to the Office for Government Policy Coordination on Friday, a government task force that launched in April selected 164 tasks out of 500 suggested by officials and civilian experts in the first round of the project.
Some of the tasks include easing speed limits in school zones at night, giving the gender equality minister the authority to seek to immediately block content from spycams, and eradicating illegal facilities near streams and valleys as instructed by President Lee.
The government will also push to reexamine honors and awards conferred on people involved in past insurrections, military insurgencies or state violence, and to establish legal grounds to publicize documents concerning North Korea.
Efforts will be made to overhaul the management of the Korea Football Association — for example, by moving to a direct election system for its president and enhancing transparency in the appointment process for the national team’s head coach.
