Keflavík Airport has unveiled a new cultural initiative called the “Bless Programme,” designed to give departing travellers a final immersive experience of Icelandic culture before leaving the country.

The programme introduces a series of curated airport tours focused on Icelandic food, art, drinks and music, transforming the departure experience into a showcase of the country’s identity and creative culture.

    ‘Bless’ Inspired By Icelandic Goodbye

The initiative takes its name from the Icelandic word “Bless,” commonly used to say goodbye.

Airport officials said the programme was created to ensure travellers leave Iceland with a stronger connection to the country’s culture, creativity and hospitality.

The experiences are hosted by Icelandic locals and take place within various spaces across the airport terminal.

    Food Tour Highlights Icelandic Cuisine

The food-focused experience, titled “Iceland Through Food,” is hosted by Hafliði Halldórsson.

The tour introduces guests to Icelandic culinary traditions through tastings at airport restaurants and food spaces.

Visitors can sample Icelandic lamb, fresh seafood, skyr and the famous hot dogs from Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur, often described among Iceland’s best-known street foods.

    Art Tour Explores Airport Installations

The “Iceland Through Art” tour is hosted by designer and creative consultant Hlín Helga Guðlaugsdóttir.

The experience guides travellers through more than 20 artworks displayed throughout Keflavík Airport and its surrounding grounds.

Featured works include ceramic murals, stained-glass installations and a 24-metre rainbow sculpture created by Icelandic artists inspired by the country’s landscapes and natural scenery.

Drinks Tour Focuses On Icelandic Spirits And Beer

The drinks tour, hosted by Reykjavík bartender Georg Leite, takes place at Loksins Bar within the airport.

Travellers can sample Icelandic beers, Brennivín schnapps, Icelandic gin, cream liqueur and locally inspired wine selections.

The experience aims to introduce visitors to Iceland’s evolving craft beverage scene and drinking culture.

    Music Tour Celebrates Icelandic Artists

The music-themed experience, “Iceland Through Music,” is hosted by Sigtryggur Baldursson, former drummer of The Sugarcubes.

The tour explores Icelandic music ranging from rock and electronic music to jazz and modern pop.

Featured artists include Björk, Sigur Rós, Kaleo, Of Monsters and Men, Mezzoforte and Laufey.

Airports Increasingly Focus On Cultural Experiences

The Bless Programme reflects a wider trend within the aviation industry as airports increasingly position themselves as cultural gateways rather than simply transport hubs.

Airports globally are expanding lifestyle, entertainment and local experience offerings to improve passenger engagement and strengthen destination branding.

Keflavík Airport hopes the initiative will reinforce Iceland’s image as a creative, design-focused and culturally distinctive travel destination.
