The package, worth approximately €48 million, was presented by Sweden’s infrastructure minister Andreas Carlson during a press conference on Wednesday.
Airport Fee Relief Forms Largest Part Of Package
Most of the financial support — around 400 million kronor — will be used to cover airport-related fees including passenger and baggage security charges.
According to the Swedish government, the measure is expected to reduce airline operating costs by approximately 46 kronor, or around €4.20, per passenger.
The initiative is designed to help domestic carriers cope with increasing jet fuel expenses as global oil prices remain volatile.
Fuel Prices Rise Amid Middle East Tensions
The aid package comes as geopolitical instability in the Middle East continues affecting global energy markets.
Recent increases in crude oil prices above $100 per barrel have intensified pressure on transport sectors across Europe, particularly aviation.
Additional Support For Essential Domestic Routes
The Swedish government has also allocated 100 million kronor to maintain domestic air routes considered strategically important but commercially vulnerable.
The funding will primarily target services connecting remote parts of Sweden where long distances make air transport especially important.
The government noted that this portion of the aid package remains subject to approval by the European Commission under EU state aid regulations.
Medical Air Transport Also Included
A separate 20 million kronor allocation has been reserved for regional authorities to support medical aviation services including air ambulances and helicopter operations.
The funding aims to strengthen healthcare transport capacity across Sweden’s geographically dispersed regions.
