Duke Energy Florida, subsidiary of Duke Energy, has completed the 74.9 MW Jumper Creek Solar Complex in Sumter County, Florida. The solar facility is part of the company’s plan to develop 900 MW of solar generation capacity in Florida by the end of 2028. According to the company, the project is expected to help save customers an estimated $250 million over its service lifetime by reducing fuel-related electricity generation costs. The facility will produce sufficient amount of energy, replacing about 1.2 million cubic feet of natural gas, 12,500 barrels of fuel oil, and 9,500 tons of coal per annum.In addition, according to Duke Energy Florida residential consumers of electricity will benefit from $50 reduction of monthly rates, that is, by 25% comparing June and January of 2026. The utility also plans to establish 12 new solar energy sites by 2028, which together are expected to generate 900 MW and deliver around $3 billion in lifetime customer savings.
