GLOBSEC Forum: Foreign Minister Toiu attends talks on Ukraine peace, Romania’s Black Sea strategic role

    During the GLOBSEC Forum in Prague, Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Toiu took part in discussions on peace in Ukraine and Romania’s strategic role in the Black Sea region.

    According to a Foreign Ministry press release issued on Saturday, Toiu attended the 21st edition of the GLOBSEC Forum, one of Europe’s leading platforms for security and defense dialogue. This year’s theme was ‘Global Systemic Transformation’.

    One of the sessions she joined focused on security and steps toward peace in Ukraine.

    The Ministry noted that the foreign ministers of Estonia, Lithuania and Luxembourg, as well as the deputy secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, also took part.

    During the session, Minister Oana Toiu emphasized the link between security and expanding connectivity from Romania through infrastructure projects that must be a priority for European funding. The discussions also focused on achieving a just and sustainable peace, ensuring freedom of navigation and economic development in the Black Sea, Romania’s strategic role in this regard and participating in reconstruction, the release states.

    At a separate session on EU enlargement and integration prospects, the Romanian top diplomat highlighted the importance of regional cooperation as Romania holds the 2026 Presidency-in-Office of the Central European Initiative (CEI).

    ‘Minister Oana Toiu emphasized that the strength of this cooperation lies in the capacity of communities and citizens to connect, while also pointing to the remarkable economic potential of the 160 million citizens in the CEI area. She also noted that the region’s combined GDP of around 5 trillion euros provides a solid foundation for developing a far more dynamic economic space,’ the release further notes.

    The Romanian foreign minister also took part in a working breakfast on the future of Europe and joined a dedicated debate hosted by Politico Europe, focused on the NATO ministerial and the transatlantic relationship.
