Within a week of each other, two new parties are entering the political fray in Greece, heralding an early start to the 2027 election season.

    First was Hope for Democracy, unveiled on Thursday at the iconic Olympion cinema in the northern city of Thessaloniki and led by Maria Karysianou, whose 19-year-old daughter was among 57 people killed in the Tempi train crash in 2023.

    “Today, hope for democracy is born,” Maria Karysianou told supporters against a backdrop of a white dove carrying an olive branch. “The healthy part of Greece has woken and united.”
