The Ministry of Employment and Labor has formed emergency response teams after part of an overpass collapsed in western Seoul.
According to the ministry on Tuesday, Labor Minister Kim Young-hoon ordered swift measures following the collapse of a structure at the Seosomun overpass demolition site.
The ministry immediately set up a central industrial accident response team at its main office and a regional response team at its Seoul Western District Office.
It also dispatched senior safety officials to the scene, who suspended work at the site shortly after the accident.
The ministry also said it would thoroughly investigate the structural causes of the collapse and carry out a swift and thorough probe.
The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Seodaemun District when part of the overpass collapsed during a safety inspection ahead of scheduled demolition work.
Three workers were confirmed dead and three others were injured and taken to hospitals, while a vehicle underneath the site was also damaged.
