Born in 1962, Alina Pavalache studied at the George Enescu National University of Arts in Romania and at the Moscow and Paris Conservatoires.

After making her debut with the Moldova Philharmonic Orchestra in Iași in 1979, she went on to appear all over the world with numerous top orchestras. As a soloist and chamber musician, she appeared across France, Romania, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, China, and Thailand.

From 1990, she began serving as a piano professor at the Conservatoire Serge Rachmaninoff de Paris, where she was later appointed the dean.

For over 30 years, her collaborators in pedagogy and performance included Viorica Cortez, Jean-Philippe Lafont, Leontina Văduva, Ruxandra Donose, Elena Moșuc, and Paul Gay. She also held masterclasses in Romania, France, and Moldova.

In 2022, she earned a doctorate in music performance from her alma mater, the George Enescu National University, which recognized her thesis on “The Human Body as an Instrument of Vocal Expression, the Singing Piano.”

Additionally, she also directed cultural events, including the Rencontres Musicales du Magnonac and the Georges Enesco International Singing Competition in Paris.

Among her accolades was the “100 for the Centennial” award in 2018, which was offered by the Ministry for Romanians Abroad for her promotion of the Romanian identity in France and around the world. In 2019, she received the “France–Romania Season” Special Award from Radio Romania Cultural.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of pianist, vocal coach and artistic director Alina Pavalache,” shared the Romanian Cultural Institute in London. “A devoted advocate of Romanian culture abroad, she dedicated her life to music, mentorship and the dialogue between voice and piano, leaving behind an enduring cultural legacy.

“In her memory, we share this recording from ten years ago at the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, featuring Alina Pavalache alongside the great mezzo-soprano Viorica Cortez — a fleeting moment that reflects her artistry, generosity and luminous spirit. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, students and all those whose lives she touched through music. May she rest in peace.”

Our condolences to Ms. Pavalache’s family, friends, students, and colleagues.
