The United States has expressed its readiness to support Armenia in diversifying its energy supplies and strengthening the country’s overall energy resilience, according to a newly signed bilateral framework.
As reported by TASS, the commitment is outlined in the charter on a comprehensive strategic partnership between Armenia and the United States, which was signed in Yerevan.
The document emphasises the shared objective of developing a robust and sustainable energy sector based on market principles. It states: “Taking into account the importance of a viable, sustainable and secure market-oriented energy sector, Armenia and the United States intend to explore opportunities for diversification and growth of energy production and supplies in Armenia <…>. Armenia and the United States intend to strengthen the energy resilience and independence of critical infrastructure, as well as stimulate investment in Armenia’s energy sector.”
The agreement identifies several priority areas for cooperation. These include the modernisation of electricity transmission lines and distribution networks, the advancement of energy storage technologies, and the enhancement of cybersecurity measures within the energy sector. It also highlights the importance of developing workforce capacity to support long-term sectoral growth.
