Russia is escalating threats against Kyiv, conveying a direct and unusual message to the United States that it plans to launch ‘systematic and sustained strikes’ against military targets and ‘decision-making centers’ in the Ukrainian capital – and that Washington should evacuate civilians and diplomats. According to the British Daily Mail, Russian President Vladimir Putin requested that the warning be delivered personally to U.S. President Donald Trump ahead of what was described as a ‘systematic blitz’ on Kyiv. In a statement released by the Kremlin, it was reported that the planned strikes would target ‘decision-making centers’ and headquarters. Moscow called on foreign nationals, diplomatic mission employees and representatives of international organizations to leave Kyiv ‘as soon as possible.’
