North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui has met in Pyongyang with her Singaporean counterpart, Vivian Balakrishnan, and the two have agreed to advance friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries.
The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency said Wednesday that the meeting took place Tuesday at the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly in the North’s capital.
According to the report, Choe vowed to boost and develop their countries’ friendly and cooperative relations in line with the aspirations and hopes of the two peoples.
Balakrishnan expressed hope that those ties will be further strengthened.
The two officials also discussed pending regional and international issues, while exchanging views on ways to advance bilateral ties in various areas with stronger diplomatic exchanges and cooperation.
Balakrishnan arrived in Pyongyang on Tuesday from China.
He is set to visit South Korea after wrapping up his stay in the North.
Singapore has maintained relatively friendly ties with North Korea, like other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
It provided the venue for the U.S.-North Korea summit in June 2018 in line with its policy of neutral diplomacy.
