A national poll by the Conservative Energy Network (CEN) shows Americans are frustrated with rising energy costs and they want more practical alternative energy sources.

CEN commissioned a survey, conducted by the Cygnal political polling firm, that found bipartisan support for getting rising energy costs under control as the war in Iran drags on. Voters want a wider variety of energy sources.

Some 82% of those taking part in the poll say they’re concerned about the affordability of electricity costs while 72% say their energy bills have increased in the past two years.

The poll found 75% of voters endorse streamlining permitting processes for new energy generation projects such as nuclear, natural gas, solar and wind while upholding environmental safety regulations.

Another 92% said the U.S. electrical grid needs modernizing or upgrades as 78% said they support investing in new infrastructure if it lowers electricity bills and enhances reliability. And 72% said they support investing in expanding the electricity grid to improve reliability if it reduces long-term costs.

Zach Colletti, Executive Director of Conservatives for Clean Energy Florida noted that 80% of respondents a candidate’s position on energy affordability is important.

“Americans everywhere are feeling the pinch of rising costs, and their electricity bills are no exception. This polling paints a clear picture: American households and small businesses are demanding relief,” Colletti said.

“They’re looking to our leaders to clear the way for much-needed grid improvements and unleash American energy production. By expanding solar power, getting serious about nuclear, and strengthening our infrastructure, Florida leaders can provide real relief to the struggling families and small businesses when they need it most.”

John Szoka, CEO of CEN, said any politician seeking office this year should stay on top of the energy issue.

“Americans are feeling real pain from rising electricity costs,” Szoka said. “They are tired of watching energy prices rise while too little gets done to solve the problem. This polling shows voters are looking for practical solutions, not political gridlock. They want America to build again.”

The poll was conducted May 4-7 and tapped 1,500 likely General Election voters.
