This June, Washingtonians will be able to experience one of Sweden’s most beloved summer traditions right here in the heart of the District.
The Embassy of Sweden has announced that its annual Midsummer celebration will return to the National Mall on June 12th, bringing live music, maypole dancing, lawn games, and flower wreath-making to the iconic Sylvan Theater.
The free outdoor celebration has become one of the city’s most unique international cultural events, drawing thousands of visitors each year for a festive evening inspired by Sweden’s famous summertime traditions.
Set against the backdrop of the Washington Monument, the event is expected to once again turn the National Mall into a lively Scandinavian-style summer gathering.

The Embassy of Sweden will host the 2026 Midsummer celebration on Friday, June 12, at the National Sylvan Theater on the National Mall.
The outdoor venue sits near the Washington Monument and has become the official home of the annual celebration.
According to the embassy, last year’s event attracted nearly 4,000 attendees, including local families, students, tourists, and members of the Scandinavian community.
This year’s festival is also being held during America’s ongoing 250th anniversary celebrations, highlighting the historic ties between Sweden and the United States.
Guests are encouraged to bring picnic blankets, food, and flower crowns for the open-air evening celebration. The event is expected to feature the same relaxed, community-focused atmosphere that has made midsummer one of Sweden’s most iconic holidays.
