More than one in ten eligible voters cast their ballots on Day One of early voting Friday.
According to the National Election Commission, turnout for the local elections came to eleven-point-six percent by the end of the first day.
By way of comparison, the 2022 local elections saw a 10-point-18 percent turnout on the first day of early voting.
Early voting continues Saturday.
Eligible voters, including foreign nationals who’ve held permanent residency for at least three years, can cast ballots at three-thousand-571 polling stations nationwide from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The election is widely seen as a referendum on President Lee Jae Myung’s first year in office.
