Poland is the first EU country to receive 6.56 billion euros in pre-financing from the SAFE program. This was announced on the “X” social network by the European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration Piotr Serafin, UNN reports.

    As noted by the European Commission, Poland received the first tranche of 6.6 billion euros under the defense financing mechanism “Security Initiative for Europe” (SAFE), which represents 15% of the total 43.7 billion euros allocated to it. They added that Poland is the largest recipient of SAFE funding and the first member state to receive a payment under this mechanism.

    The pre-financing will help Poland accelerate priority defense investments, strengthen resilience, and modernize its military capabilities in line with common European goals. SAFE is designed to ensure rapid, coordinated action, improve the interoperability of European armed forces, and strengthen the European defense industry

    This pre-financing payment was made following the completion of all necessary procedural steps and reflects the EU’s commitment to providing timely practical support through SAFE. Further payments will be made as the Polish SAFE plan is progressively implemented.

    Polish President Karol Nawrocki presented a legislative initiative “Polish SAFE 0%”, which is intended to be an alternative to the 44 billion euro European credit line.
