A 43-year-old Russian woman has been arrested in Portugal, extradited to Luxembourg, and remanded in custody on the suspicion of operating a prostitution network.

According to a statement issued by the public prosecutor’s office, the woman is alleged to have recruited around 40 women, predominantly from Ukraine or Russia, to provide sexual services in residences and hotels across Luxembourg between 2020 and 2026. Part of the proceeds was allegedly paid back to the organisation.

The Luxembourg prosecutor is investigating the suspect for human trafficking, organised crime, procuring sex workers, and money laundering. Financial investigators believe profits from the network may have far exceeded half a million euros.

As the investigation is ongoing, the suspect is presumed innocent until otherwise proven.
