With three days remaining before the June 3 local elections, President Lee Jae Myung again urged citizens to vote, arguing that political apathy and abstention only benefit those who abuse power for personal gain.
In a post on X on Sunday, Lee cited a quote attributed to the ancient Greek philosopher Plato, saying the price of indifference to politics is being governed by the worst people.
He called on voters to show through the ballot box that sovereignty belongs to the people and to entrust power to capable, trustworthy public officials who will serve the public interest.
Lee also stressed that elected leaders can either improve people’s lives or cause significant harm depending on how they exercise their authority, adding that the power of a vote is greater than many realize.
He further argued that any politicians or political groups offended by such remarks are the very vested interests voters should overcome through voting.
