Prime Minister Robert Abela said that Labour’s fourth consecutive electoral victory marks a historic moment for Malta, as he spoke at Labour party headquarters at the celebration after results were announced.
Addressing supporters, Abela thanked voters and said the result reflected strong public trust in the Labour Party.
He said Labour had become the first political party to win four consecutive elections, describing the result as a collective achievement of voters across the country.
Abela said the party’s electoral manifesto had been designed and developed over months of consultation with the public of Malta and Gozo and insisted that the shift is now going to focus on implementation of these proposals made in the manifesto.
He said that it is now time to be delivering this manifesto’s proposals first thing tomorrow, to prove to the public that the faith they put in Labour is rightly deserved.
He also emphasised the positive change he wants to deliver through this government especially for youths and pensioners.
Abela also described the campaign as a “positive and united” one, saying Labour had maintained a sense of national cohesion throughout.
He closed his address by calling for continued effort and unity as the party moves into a new legislature.
“Let us roll up our sleeves and work for the good for the Maltese and Gozitans,” he said.
