To the Editor:

The recent announcement about the Greek-French alliance does not convince me, nor does it inspire me with optimism.

The smiles and handshakes of French Prime Minister Macron are because he expects billions for new defense sales, and for no other reason. All for the money to the French defense industry, period. I wish the Greek Prime Minister would do the same for our own businesses. As a protecting power, I have no confidence in the French.

Their compromising and indeed cowardly behavior in the Second World War says it all. If we go further back to the Venizelos era, the alliance with them only brought suffering to Greek interests. In the Catastrophe of Smyrna, France and the other European ‘allies’ abandoned us completely and shamelessly. That is why self-sufficiency in every sector is the best answer to so-called friends and enemies. Billions for Greek companies and production – let’s finally promote Greek products.

    Thank you.
