It is noted that the collection includes French wines from the most famous estates of Bordeaux. Before the 1917 revolution, it belonged to the Romanov imperial family, but later the Soviet authorities confiscated the wines, and then Stalin began to supplement it with his favorite varieties of Georgian wines.
Irakli Gilauri, the owner of Gilauri Wines, who collaborated with the republic’s Ministry of Agriculture on the project, told the agency that the auction will help put Georgia on the “collectors’ map”.
Tbilisi plans to use the proceeds to open a wine-making school.
