Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan and the head of Oman’s special economic zones authority discussed bilateral economic cooperation on Monday.
During a virtual meeting with Chairman Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef of Oman’s Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, Kim expressed appreciation for Oman’s cooperation in ensuring stable supplies of crude oil and naphtha and requested continued support.
The minister also urged Oman to help streamline customs, inspections and quarantine checks affecting South Korean companies transporting cargo to Saudi Arabia via Duqm Port in Oman and to support South Korean participation in future plant projects.
The two sides agreed to discuss reviving the South Korea-Oman Economic Cooperation Committee, which has not met since 2016.
The meeting was arranged as South Korea seeks to strengthen cooperation with Oman, which is viewed as a potential alternative logistics hub and resource supplier amid ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East.
