While Woltemade was not in the starting XI, his introduction after 73 minutes generated plenty of interest. The Newcastle attacker replaced Wirtz as Germany looked to manage minutes with the World Cup approaching. Although he did not score, Woltemade’s movement immediately gave Germany a different focal point in attack. Standing at 6ft 6in, he offers a physical presence that few forwards in Europe can match, yet his technical quality allows him to operate between the lines rather than simply acting as a traditional target man.
