Kosovo’s rail infrastructure manager
Infrakos says it has taken full management control of its stations and railway
properties in northern Kosovo.
In practical terms, this is a governance
and infrastructure-control step rather than the launch of a new rail service.
Infrakos says signs and official markings have now been installed at stations
in Zvečan, Leposavić, Lešak and Slatina.
The move matters because northern Kosovo
has been one of the areas where Pristina’s control over public infrastructure
has been contested. By taking over these railway assets, Infrakos says it can
proceed with detailed project planning and work toward bringing the railway in
this area into full operation under Kosovo’s infrastructure manager.

The section is described by Infrakos as
part of the Corridor X rail axis, linking Kosovo’s network with routes through
North Macedonia and wider international corridors. For the rail sector, the
immediate meaning is that Kosovo is trying to place the northern rail
infrastructure under a single legal and operational authority before further
modernisation work.
The operation was supported by Kosovo’s
government, including Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the interior ministry, the
economy ministry, the infrastructure and transport ministry, and Kosovo Police.
Infrakos presents the takeover as a prerequisite for railway rehabilitation and
future use of the line for freight and wider network integration.
