The Iceland delegation will be hosting key events at the World Geothermal Congress 2026, presenting the breadth of Icelandic geothermal knowledge.

As the Official Country Partner of the upcoming World Geothermal Congress (WGC) 2026the Icelandic delegation will be hosting and participating in several sessions covering a wide range of topics as part of the WGC’s technical program. With more than 100 professionals from across Iceland’s geothermal sector participating in the congress, these events ( as well as all the technical papers) represent the breadth of the country’s geothermal activities from research, education, government, service, operation and supply.

The following are the key events hosted by the Icelandic delegation. More information is available on the Green by Iceland website.

“Our Climate Future: Reliable Heat, Resilient Systems, Resourceful Communities”

    • 8 June 2026, 14:00 – 18:00
    • Macleod E1, CTCC

Sponsored by Landsvirkjun, Reykjavík Energy, and Reykjavík Geothermal, the event will explore how geothermal energy can support energy security and decarbonisation while accelerating deployment in North America and other emerging markets through collaboration, knowledge sharing, development, and investment.

    “From Rock to Revenue”

    • 9 June 2026, 10:45 – 12:30
    • Macleod E4, CTCC

The session will examine the regulatory, technical, contractual, and financing challenges that continue to slow commercial deployment of emerging geothermal technologies including superhot geothermal, Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), and Advanced Geothermal Systems (AGS). The session brings together developers, policymakers, engineers, legal experts, and investors to discuss how innovation can progress to execution.

    “Geothermal After Hours”

    • 9 June 2026, 17:15 – 18:00
    • Icelandic pavilion

Join the Icelandic geothermal delegation for networking, conversations, and insights representing over a century of geothermal expertise across the full value chain.

    “Direct Use of Geothermal”

    • 10 June 2026, 08:30 – 10:15
    • Macleod E4, CTCC

Drawing on Iceland’s long experience with geothermal heating, the session will discuss how geothermal heat can support homes, cities, industry, and agriculture while strengthening long-term energy security. Combining leadership perspectives, real-world engineering case stories and international dialogue, the session will demonstrate how proven solutions from Iceland can be adapted and implemented in Canada, North America and beyond.

“Geothermal Pathways from Vision to Bankability”

    • 10 June 2026, 14:30 – 16:30
    • Macleod E2, CTCC

Hosted by Green by Iceland, the Global Geothermal Alliance (GGA), World Bank, IRENA, and ESMAP, this roundtable will focus on project preparation, risk reduction, financing, and practical pathways to bringing geothermal projects to commercial reality.

Beyond the official congress programme, Icelandic organisations will also be part of specialist workshopos, such as the Geothermal Gas Management Workshop taking place June 7, 2026, while the Krafla Magma Testbed (KMT) and EPOS-ON Workshop on Superhot Geothermal Energy is scheduled for 9 June from 14:00 to 17:30, highlighting developments in one of the world’s most closely watched geothermal research initiatives.

Iceland represents a long history of geothermal utilisation and continues to play a role in advancing new technologies and applications. At the same time the contribution of Icelandic participants at the Congress ranges from geothermal heating, district heating, superhot resources, project finance and much more.

As an Iceland-based media platform with roots in the country’s geothermal sector, ThinkGeoEnergy will be reporting from WGC 2026 and covering selected sessions, interviews, and activities involving the Icelandic delegation throughout the congress.
