High Potential may not return to TV until 2027, but it’s never too early to speculate about where the series could take viewers when it resumes with Season 3.

As viewers know, the LAPD’s current captain, Nick Wagner (Steve Howey), was left bleeding and likely dying after having been stabbed by a mystery figure. While the fate of the LAPD’s captain position may revolve around his survival, there’s still plenty of paths forward for the coveted job, with or without him.

Fans who tuned into Season 2 know that Soto (Judy Reyes) had been vying for the position before newbie Wagner was recruited from higher-ups. Whether Wagner lives or not, pending his well-being, he might need someone to sub, giving Soto the opportunity she so desperately desires. Then again, there is the possibility that Soto could just take over the position permanently.

But, if the position remains vacant upon Season 3’s return, it would be interesting to see if the series would explore casting a new star, offering an opportunity for a bit of a refresh. As Season 2 showcased, High Potential isn’t afraid of a bit of flashy casting as Howey, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Mekhi Phifer, and Clancy Brown joined the mix.

In addition to a potential new captain, Season 3 is likely making way for some major casting for Morgan’s (Kaitlin Olson) missing ex, Roman, who has loomed large over the show since Season 1, but has never been seen. Roman’s arrival was hinted at in Season 2’s finale as a shadow lingered at the back of Ava’s (Amirah J) art show.
