A tragedy occurred this Wednesday afternoon in the Rana e Hedhun area in Shëngjin, where two young men from Kosovo lost their lives after being swept away by strong sea waves.
The victims have been identified as Leonid Alia, from Fushë Kosova, and Jetmir Çopa, from Prishtina. They were on the beach with other people when, due to strong winds and large waves, they found themselves in difficulty in the water.
According to the Police, at around 16:30, a report was received that several citizens who had entered the sea to bathe were in danger of drowning. Border Police services, Lezha Police officers and emergency teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Thanks to the quick intervention of several citizens with Jet Skis, in cooperation with police forces, it was possible to extract five citizens from Kosovo from the sea, who were urgently transported to the Lezha Regional Hospital.
However, according to information from the hospital emergency room, two of them failed to survive the consequences of drowning and died, while three others continue to receive medical assistance.
Authorities are working to fully document the event, while the tragedy has shocked the victims’ families and vacationers present in the area.
