Vote counting for the June 3 local elections came to an end Friday afternoon after ballots collected from a voting center in Seoul’s Songpa District earlier in the day were all counted.
Earlier Friday, police obtained two ballot boxes from the voting center in Songpa after dispersing protesters who had blocked election authorities from removing them following a ballot shortage during Wednesday’s local elections.
With all votes counted, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon of the main opposition People Power Party(PPP) obtained 49-point-22 percent of votes while his opponent Chong Won-o of the ruling Democratic Party(DP) secured 48-point-07 percent.
After the ballots from the Songpa voting center were counted, the final list of elected Seoul City Council members was also confirmed.
Of the 118 city council seats, the DP won 73 district seats and seven proportional representation seats.
The PPP secured 30 district seats and eight proportional representation seats.
