Industry Minister Kim Jung Kwan is set to embark on a trip to Kazakhstan, three Middle Eastern countries and the Czech Republic on Sunday to bolster energy security and expand industrial cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources, Kim will visit Kazakhstan from Sunday to Tuesday and attend the 11th meeting of the South Korea-Kazakhstan Joint Committee on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation to discuss expanding cooperation in energy, natural resources, digital technology and environmentally friendly industries.

Kim is also expected to discuss stable crude oil supplies, as well as cooperation in critical minerals and plant construction projects, during meetings with senior Kazakh officials.

After accompanying President Lee Jae Myung on a European tour, Kim will travel to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates from June 13 to 16 to seek stronger partnerships in energy and industry, with a focus on securing stable supplies of crude oil and liquefied natural gas.

The minister will then visit the Czech Republic on June 17 and 18, where he will chair a meeting to assess progress on the Dukovany nuclear power plant project, for which South Korea’s Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power is serving as the main contractor.

He will also hold a bilateral ministerial dialogue on supply chains and energy to review cooperation and joint research and development projects in advanced sectors, including robotics, batteries and semiconductors.
