HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A new art exhibition in Honolulu is inviting visitors to explore the connection between nature and the human experience.
Contemporary artist Taiji Terasaki will showcase Hawaiian Landscapes: Earth Within Us, a collection of paintings and mixed-media works inspired by the geological forces that shape the Hawaiian Islands and the biological processes that sustain life.
Organizers say the exhibit explores similarities found throughout nature, including patterns seen in volcanic formations, river systems, blood vessels and cellular structures.
“At every scale, matter is organizing itself,” Terasaki said. “The branching of rivers resembles circulatory systems. Mineral veins echo neural pathways. Crystal growth mirrors biological growth.”
The exhibition will open on June 16 at the headquarters of American Savings Bank at 300 N. Beretania St. and runs through Oct. 2 during regular business hours. A public reception is scheduled opening night, June 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., giving visitors an opportunity to meet the artist and view the collection.
The exhibition is presented by MakeVisible, a Hawaiʻi nonprofit focused on connecting art, science and environmental awareness. Twenty percent of artwork sales will support Kupu, a nonprofit organization dedicated to youth conservation and environmental stewardship in Hawaii.
