The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) slipped more than four percent on Wednesday to close in the seven-thousand-700 range after witnessing a sharp surge the previous day.
The KOSPI dipped 366-point-11 points, or four-point-52 percent, to close at seven-thousand-730-point-82.
At one point during trading, the index plunged to seven-thousand-541-point-11 and program selling was halted.
The KOSPI has been extremely volatile this week, with the Korea Exchange activating a sell-side sidecar on Monday and a buy-side sidecar on Tuesday.
The tech-heavy KOSDAQ lost 16-point-18 points, or one-point-67 percent, to close at 951-point-63.
