Exports during the first ten days of June have reached a new high on the continued upswing in semiconductor shipments.

According to provisional data from the Korea Customs Service released Thursday, exports rose 85-point-nine percent from a year earlier to 28-point-six billion U.S. dollars between June 1 and 10.

The figure broke the previous record of 25-point-two billion dollars for the ten-day period in April.

Shipments of semiconductors jumped 205-point-eight percent to a new high of eleven-point-one billion dollars, increasing their share of total exports to 38-point-seven percent.

Imports also increased 35-point-six percent to 23-point-four billion dollars, with inbound energy shipments, including of crude oil, rising 39-point-nine percent in the wake of surging oil prices stemming from the Iran war and the weakened Korean won.

Exports exceeded imports, resulting in a trade surplus of five-point-three billion dollars.
