South Korea’s national football team is set to face off against Czechia in the first match of the group round at the 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The opening Group A match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Korea Standard Time, at Estadio Akron near Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Taeguk Warriors will also face Mexico at the same venue on June 18, followed by a match against South Africa at Estadio Monterrey in Guadalupe on June 24.
The national team is vying to advance to the Round of 16 for the second consecutive tournament since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and ultimately, to the quarterfinals, which would be the first for the national team at a World Cup held overseas.
KBS 2TV is set to broadcast live coverage of the opening match.
Meanwhile, the commencement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup opened for a 39-day run at Mexico City Stadium on Thursday, local time, featuring performances by global stars like Shakira, as well as singing of the official tournament anthem by Andrea Bocelli and K-pop singer EJAE.
