Business leaders from South Korea and Italy have discussed ways to expand economic cooperation between the two sides on the occasion of President Lee Jae Myung’s state visit to Italy.
Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, who took part in the “Korea-Italy Business Roundtable” in Rome on Friday, said Italy has been a source of inspiration for the company.
According to a press briefing by Director of National Policy Kim Yong-beom, the head of the tech giant anticipated expanding cooperation in various cutting-edge industries by integrating Italy’s technological innovation and South Korea’s strength.
In response, Ferrari Chairman John Elkann expressed hopes to collaborate with South Korea on electrification and digitalization through joint research and development, beyond launching traditional luxury cars.
Other business leaders from both sides mentioned working together in electricity infrastructure, eco-friendly materials, defense industry, and shipbuilding.
President Lee, who also attended the event, said he expects the businesses to play a critical role as the two countries seek to develop together amid the dynamic transformation of the global order.
